Kick off (literally) 2016 with bulls, broncs and a whole lot of rodeo action when the World’s Toughest Rodeo National Tour returns to Des Moines’ Wells Fargo Arena Jan. 8 and 9. Fans can expect to see the world’s best bucking horses, bulls and cowboys (and cowgirls) with nerves of steel as they show their grit and try to ride these animals.

“Three Hills Rodeo — the livestock contractor for the event from Bernard, Iowa — was awarded the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association Remuda Award during the National Finals Rodeo, which is the nation’s top bucking horse herd,” said Marla Morehead, marketing coordinator for World’s Toughest Rodeo Tour. “It has never been awarded to a rodeo company east of the Missouri River. Consequently, contestants are riding the top horses and bulls in the industry.”

This year’s events have been selected as the exclusive qualifiers for The American — an action-packed event where the toughest competitors in the world compete for the most significant one-day cash payout ever awarded. An elite lineup of the nation’s top contestants will attempt to qualify for this exclusive rodeo event.

World’s Toughest Rodeo features bull riding, saddle bronc riding and bareback riding, with the top two competing a second time in the thrilling Winner-Takes-All Showdown Round. The Midwest’s fastest cowgirls will also compete in the Women’s Barrel Racing. Along with intense competition, fans will witness Mutton Bustin for the little buckaroos, comedy from Danger Dave Whitmoyer, as well as world-class specialty entertainment, making this an event guaranteed to keep fans on the edge of their seats.

New for 2016, fans can expect to “Rodeo like a Rockstar” with Nash 97.3 FM on Friday night as part of fan appreciation event.

“We will have an adult-only Happy Hour promotion on the concourse from 6-7:30 p.m. featuring fun giveaways, Jack Daniel’s girls and live music featuring Richard Arndt,” Morehead said. “In addition, we will have giveaways throughout the show for fans and interactive fan fun with 97.3 DJs.”

World’s Toughest Rodeo knows fan enjoyment is the key to its success. Fans can get down in the dirt for fun activities including free pony rides, all-access meet-and-greets with cowboys and entertainers, autographs and photos. Fans can also sit on Midnight the Bull in the bucking chutes or get up close and personal with the World’s Toughest Rodeo animal superstars.

Whiplash the Cowboy Monkey is one of those furry stars of the show. Dressed in his cowboy hat, silk scarf, chaps and Justin Boots, Whiplash “never misses a chance to show his skills and cowboy spirit as he rides his trusty Border Collie mount, Boggie.”

“We strive to keep it exciting and keep it fresh each year,” said Morehead. “Fan interaction keeps it exciting and keeps fans coming back.” CV
