IOWA CRAFT BEER TENT TO HOST BUTTER COW FESTIVAL

7/6/2020

The Iowa Craft Beer Tent has announced it will host the Butter Cow Festival on Friday, Aug. 14 and Saturday, Aug. 15 at the Lauridsen Amphitheater at Water Works Park. This community event will feature local breweries, local State Fair food vendors and local bands, all spaced according to social distancing guidelines. Event organizers expect 13 local breweries and 15–20 local food vendors to be involved. The band line up for Friday is Richard Arndt, Jason Brown and The Purple Xperience and Saturday is Tony Bohnenkamp, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, Pie in the Sky and B2wins.

A portion of the proceeds raised from the event will benefit the Des Moines Water Works Park Foundation and the State Fair Blue Ribbon Foundation. The dates coincide with what would have been the first weekend of the Iowa State Fair.

“The Iowa State Fair is an economic driver of so many businesses and is part of the fabric of our community, and we see this as a way to celebrate some of the elements we love about the State Fair and support small businesses,” said event organizer Scott Carlson. “The Butter Cow Festival will support local vendors who rely on festivals and events for income, bands who have not had the opportunity to perform in recent months, and people who are eager to safely enjoy a summer festival. In addition, this event will support local sound engineers, promoters, security staff, stagehands and event management teams that have not been able to work since the pandemic began.”

In a first of its kind event in the Des Moines area, organizers are working to ensure the amphitheater is safe for crowds and will have safety protocols in place ensuring plenty of room for social distancing. Attendees are required to wear masks as they enter the event and all staff and volunteers will also be wearing masks. The event area will be divided into 700 15×15 square grids, with each space holding up to eight people. Ticket prices range from $75 per square (less than $10 per person for a group of 8) to $250 per square (less than $32 per person for a group of 8). The event will be following other CDC protocol to ensure the safety of event patrons.

The event will run from 4:30 – 11 p.m. on Aug. 14-15. Gates will open at 4 p.m. each day. More details will be announced in coming weeks.
