Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Iowa reopening for Summer Club

6/3/2020

Summer session will begin June 8 at the Gregory & Suzie Glazer Burt Boys & Girls Club at Drake University

DES MOINES, IA—June 3, 2020—Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Iowa (BGCCI) will reopen the Gregory & Suzie Glazer Burt Boys & Girls Club, located at 25th Street and Forest Avenue on the Drake University campus, for children ages kindergarten through fifth grade starting June 8, 2020.

The Burt Club is a licensed childcare facility. Because of social distancing measures, the Burt Club can only accommodate up to 80 children for summer session. Protocols are in place to ensure the safety of the children and staff, and that children have an enjoyable Club experience.

“We have been anticipating this day and cannot wait to welcome kids again here at Burt Club,” said Kendra Allen, unit director for Burt Club. “We are committed to serving children in our community who need us most.”

Summer Club runs June 8 through August 14. Club hours will be Monday-Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Summer session costs depend on each family’s situation; however, no child will be turned away for inability to pay.

The Burt Club is the only club location that is not adjacent to a Des Moines school. All other Club sites closed March 12 when Des Moines Public Schools announced that they were closing due to the COVID-19 outbreak. They will remain closed until school officials determine it is safe for students to return.

The Gregory & Suzie Glazer Burt Boys & Girls Club at Drake University opened last August. The Club is named after Suzie Glazer Burt and her late husband who passed away in January 2018. It is the second Club in the nation to be situated on a private college campus.
