Waukee’s New Trailside Dog Park to Open April 5

3/21/2019

The brand new Trailside Dog Park will officially open in Waukee on Friday, April 5. A public ribbon-cutting event is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Following the event, the park will be open to pass holders. This is the first dog park to be built in Waukee.

“We heard from many Waukee citizens over the years that they wanted an off-leash dog park. It’s exciting to be able to provide that amenity for dog owners and their dogs,” said Waukee Parks & Recreation Director Matt Jermier. “It’s also a perfect location to be able to provide restrooms and a drinking fountain next to one of our most popular trails.”

The four-acre Trailside Dog Park is located at 590 SE Brick Drive, just east of Alice’s Road and adjacent to the popular Heart of the Warrior Trail. The park includes separated large/small dog areas, a drinking fountain, dog waste stations, a shade structure, concrete walking paths, open greenspaces, public restrooms and parking. It also features a trail connection and bicycle racks.

The April 5 event will feature remarks from officials, a ribbon cutting ceremony, refreshments and crowning the winner of the “First in the Park” contest. The online dog photo submission contest will launch March 25 at 8 a.m. and will grant one winner early access to the park and a waived park pass fee! Visitwww.Waukee.org/dogpark for more contest information.

All Waukee residents must license dogs with the City of Waukee prior to purchasing Trailside Dog Park passes. This can be done online at www.petdata.com. Trailside Dog Park passes can be purchased online at www.Waukee.org/registration.

Annual park passes are $25 for Waukee residents and $45 for non-residents. Non-residents do not need to license dogs with the City of Waukee. People are encouraged to review all park rules at www.Waukee.org/dogpark.

Dogs must have a park pass tag displayed at all times in the park. The Waukee Parks & Recreation Department encourages citizens to apply for park passes soon to ensure plenty of time for processing and shipping.
