IOWA EVENTS CENTER’S GENERAL MANAGER CHRIS CONNOLLY WINS SPECTRA VENUE MANAGEMENT GM OF THE YEAR AWARD3/15/2019
Spectra, the industry’s leading venue management company partnering with 750 clients, recently honored Chris Connolly, General Manager of Iowa Events Center, with their Venue Management General Manager of the Year Award. Each year at its General Manager meetings they recognize a leader who successfully adds to the experiences for fans and guests.
2018 was a tremendous year for the Iowa Events Center. Over the past 12 months the three venue complex was able to add high quality specialty events to the normal arsenal of concerts, tenant games and family shows at Wells Fargo Arena. This included hosting its first ever WNBA and NHL preseason games in partnership with arena tenant teams. The culinary, operations, sales and events teams also raised the bar once again by juggling 338 events throughout the convention center.
“The General Manager is the backbone of any venue team’s success. At the Iowa Events Center we are lucky to have Chris Connolly as an inspirational leader. He is an example of what it takes to succeed in the event industry and we especially appreciate his involvement in our community,” said Tom Hockensmith, Polk County Board of Supervisors Chair.
2019 has started strong and will remain that way as preparations continue for the 2019 NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball First and Second Rounds, which will take place March 21 & 23 at Wells Fargo Arena. Fans will have an opportunity to see all eight teams selected to play in Des Moines during the Wednesday, March 20 Open Practice Day. Doors open at 10am with the first practice at 11am. Admission is free as is parking in the Iowa Events Center lots for Wednesday.
