DES MOINES – The Civic Music Association (CMA) is pleased to announce, as part of his week-long residency, acclaimed cellist, Matt Haimovitz will perform three Bach Cello Suites in three different locations around Des Moines for free on Friday, May 19. Each suite will be accompanied by overtures recently commissioned by Haimovitz.

“A Moveable Feast” is Haimovitz’s creation that brings a familiar repertoire to unfamiliar locations – to play Bach where people do not expect to hear Bach. The feast will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Friday at the Central Library Chess Garden, outside of Starbucks, where Haimovitz will perform the first movement of Bach’s Suites. The feast will then continue to the Wellmark YMCA at noon where he will perform the second movement of Bach’s Suites surrounded by people exercising. To finish his feast, Haimovitz will perform at Cowles Commons at 4 p.m. and will be accompanied by pianist Sophia Ahmad.
