Iowa State (0-2) vs. Iowa (2-0)
When: Saturday, Sept. 13
Where: Kinnick Stadium, Iowa City
Kickoff: 3:30 p.m. CDT
The Hawkeyes barely eluded a major embarrasment with a 17-13 win over Ball State Saturday to remain undefeated, while the ’Clones stayed winless after falling to Kansas State, 32-28. Iowa quarterback Jake Rudock threw for 322 yards, which normally should spell trouble for ISU, ranked 101st against the pass thus far. But numbers can lie in this case. With the mythical state football crown as well as the Cy-Hawk trophy on the line, all bets are off.
Hawaii (0-2) vs. UNI (0-1)
When: Sunday, Sept. 14
Where: Aloha Stadium, Hawaii
Kickoff: 11 a.m. CDT
Smarting from two close losses to No. 25 Washington (17-16) and Oregon State (38-30), Hawaii will be looking to get in the win column against the Panthers, who are coming off a bye week after falling in the season-opener to Iowa, 31-23. Sawyer Kollmorgen threw for 380 yards, but it’s the UNI running game (25 yards on 25 attempts) that will need to improve in order or the Panthers to have a chance.
Drake (1-1) vs. Western Illinois (1-1)
When: Saturday, Sept. 13
Where: Hanson Field, Macomb, Illinois
Kickoff: 3 p.m. CDT
Western Illinois is coming off a loss, but the problem is, that loss was “only” 37-3 to No. 18 Wisconsin. Think of it this way: What would the score have been had Drake played the Badgers? This one could smart.
Nebraska (2-0) vs. Fresno State (0-2)
When: Saturday, Sept. 13
Where: Bulldog Stadium, Fresno, California
Kickoff: 9:30 p.m. CDT
Fresno State is second-to-last in points allowed thus far, having given up 52 and 59 in two losses. Nebraska isn’t proud of its narrow 31-24 win over undermanned McNeese State, and are hearing about it from Husker faithful. If Nebraska QB Tommy Armstrong Jr. (242 yards passing, 131 rushing) is on his game once again, Fresno State can expect another 50-pointer in the negative column.
