Justis Huni says Paul Gallen is making a big mistake by accepting a role as a commentator for his fight with Christian Tsoye tonight

Huni who is fighting at the International Convention Centre in Sydney’s Darling Harbour just three weeks before the Gallen fight thinks his rival will regret his decision to be at ringside once he sees the damage he can inflict on him up close

It is the first of two fights quick succession for the Aussie heavyweight who is carrying hopes of heavyweight boxing gold ahead of the Olympics in Tokyo in a few months

“It’s going to be a shock for Gallen I feel like he knows what I can do but he really doesn’t know fully” Huni said “He’s going off some videos but it’s going to be different when he sees it live and in person how fast my footwork will be how sharp I am He’s in for a treat

“He wants to question my heart we’ll have to wait and see on June 16 because I think he’ll be questioning what he’s doing in the boxing ring with me

“A lot of my sparring opponents are saying to me ‘I knew you were fast but being in front of it I can’t even see the punches’

“That’s what Gallen’s going to have trouble with because he’s fought a lot of guys but they don’t have my speed or footwork

“He’s trying to compare me to his fight against Mark Hunt and Lucas Browne but I’m not one of them This is a different level”

Huni’s promoter Dean Lonergan commended Gallen for his bravery but agreed that there is going to be a fear of realisation quickly setting in
“He will walk away with a lot more fear after this fight than he had before it because he’s going to see what this kid can do” Lonergan said

“I have to say Gal’s got balls the size of watermelons but when he is sitting ringside and he hears how hard this guy hits and sees how fast he is against Tsoye who has had more than 200 amateur fights he’s going to realise he’s bitten off way more than he can chew
That’s Paul Gallen’s message to Justis Huni ahead of the 22yearold’s Australian heavyweight title defence tonight that comes three weeks before he’s scheduled to face the former NRL star

Gallen had already labelled the Tsoye fight disrespectful given the quick turnaround that will see Huni get back in the ring to face the Cronulla Sharks legend on June 16 But even he found Tuesday’s weighin drama a “surprising” escalation of the Huni camp’s arrogance

“That’s just so disrespectful” Gallen told foxsportscomau after being informed there was no mention of Tsoye at his own weighin

ustis Huni’s promoter Dean Lonergan may be overlooking tomorrow night’s opponent Christian Tsoye but the 22yearold certainly isn’t

Huni 30 will defend his Australian heavyweight title on Wednesday at the ICC in Sydney just three weeks ahead of his muchanticipated showdown with Paul Gallen and with the Tokyo Olympics edging ever closer

And if you needed an idea of what the priority was from Lonergan’s perspective we got it on Tuesday as the fighters and press arrived at the weighin for tomorrow’s event In the background the same Gallen vs Huni promotional banner that was brought out when the two had their press conference last week There was no mention of Tsoye inside the ICC; the TVs also promoting Gallen and Huni’s June 16 affair

The idea of taking a fight just three weeks after Tsoye had already been labelled a dangerous game by Gallen It took a more disrespectful turn a little more than 24 hours out

“That’s not our fight” Tsoye’s trainer Christian Ennor said as he told his fighter and Huni to instead move in front of the black backdrop for their faceoff photos

Huni who tipped the scales at 1069 kilograms obliged

“I find it disrespectful as well” Huni later told foxsportscomau “As soon as I came up here I was saying the exact same thing Why is the banner for the next fight up?

“That’s not the fight that’s going ahead tomorrow night I felt bad myself that it happened but I don’t have control of it”
