Join the club at WineStyles

8/26/2015

If you’ve ever found yourself wondering what the difference is between an earthy wine and an oaky wine, or perhaps asked what classifies a wine as robust, the wine tasting events and clubs at WineStyles West Des Moines are for you.

WineStyles offers casual wine tastings every Thursday from 5:30-8:30 p.m.

WineStyles offers casual wine tastings every Thursday from 5:30-8:30 p.m.

Say goodbye to the $3 wine you’ve been drinking since college, and say hello to wines from around the world with a Taste Club membership, which offers two bottles of wine every month, including tasting notes and a pairing recipe among other benefits. There is also a Learn Club with three new bottles each month; the Enjoy Club, which offers two premium wines every other month; a Beer Club; and a Cheese Club. Memberships range from $19.99 to $89.99 per month and include a variety of benefits and discounts.

For those who aren’t quite ready to commit to a monthly club, every Thursday, WineStyles in West Glen hosts a three-hour wine tasting for both club members ($5) and non-members ($7.50). Each week has a new theme, and six wines are chosen for visitors to sample and learn about. This week’s theme is a Back to School Tasting, and the first Thursday in September is called Chase the Ratings, featuring highly rated wines.

Tastings aren’t just for wine, though. WineStyles also offers craft beer tastings and artisanal cheeses and gourmet foods to pair with the drinks. The informative events teach guests how to pair the perfect cheese with wine and craft beer.

Perfect for groups, corporate events and even dates, the weekly wine tastings offer an opportunity to learn about the craft of wine without any commitment. There’s no need to even RSVP — just pick a Thursday and go.

The tastings are casual: take a seat at the bar, ask for a sampling list and sip at your own pace. The staff will come around often to refill your glass and take food orders. Employees have an excellent knowledge of the wine, offering suggestions and guessing correctly which samples you will and won’t like based on your preferences.

WineStyles’ atmosphere is effortless and comfortable, with bar seating, tables and a small patio out front. It’s a good option for after-work drinks and a great place for discovering new beverages you might not find elsewhere.

The best part about WineStyles, though, is that you don’t have to wait until a Thursday night wine tasting to sample one of the store’s finest wines. Come in any time for a glass, a bottle or even a meal. Wine selections range from California whites to Australian reds and even some varieties from Italy. The food menu includes pick-your-own meat and/or cheese plates, olives, “pizzettes” and other light options. Snacks are affordable, with the most expensive item on the menu being the Crab Cake Pizzette for $13.99. A la carte bread and crackers can be purchased for less than $2 each.

WineStyles of West Glen offers a variety of events besides its weekly tastings, such as the 2015 Passport Series, in which each month featured an educational evening where guests were able to try six different wines from different regions around the world.

Unlike a bar or restaurant where the server simply helps to pick out a glass of wine you might enjoy, WineStyles is all about educating consumers — and we can all drink to that. CV
