Does more sex equal more
freedom?
Recent surveys are telling older
Americans what so many of you
reading this already know: American
youths are having more sex than
ever before, at a younger age
than ever before, with more people
than ever before, and in a more
variety of ways than ever before.
Such as the use of oral sex as
a pleasurable form of contraception,
for instance.
And why not? If you are nothing
more than a cosmic coincidence
that evolved here on Earth out
of random chance, why not eat,
drink and be merry while it lasts?
After all, as long as it's with
another consenting adult and you
use a condom, what does it matter,
right?
Well, if that's your view, then
how do you explain the following
statistics?
- More than 43 million Americans
have been killed via abortion
since the start of Roe v. Wade.
That's more deaths than in all
the wars this country has ever
fought combined.
- In 2000 alone we aborted 140,000
babies in the second and third
trimester. That's more American
deaths than the Korean, Vietnam
and Gulf wars, and the War on
Terror combined.
- Seventy percent of Americans
have first-hand knowledge of divorce.
- In 2003, more than 33 percent
of all babies were born in this
country out of wedlock. In 1960
- despite the fact we were poorer,
less educated, far more prejudiced,
and contraception wasn't as easily
accessible - that number was just
5.3 percent.
- In the black community, 68.5
percent of all babies were born
out of wedlock in 2003.
- In the Hispanic community,
45 percent of all babies were
born out of wedlock in 2003.
- Pornography will gross at
least $57 billion this year, more
than every team in MLB, NBA and
NFL combined. The average age
of a first-time pornography user
is 12 years old.
- Child pornography, which is
illegal, is a $3 billion industry.
That's about half the combined
revenue of NBC, CBS and ABC combined.
- About 2,800 teenagers get
pregnant each day.
- In 2003, more than 98 percent
of men and women who had AIDS
contracted HIV either through
sexual contact outside the bonds
of marriage or illicit drug usage.
I could go on and on and on.
Children born out of wedlock
- which I was - are less likely
to be as educated and earn as
much money as those who are not.
Children who are products of divorce
are less likely to be as educated
or earn as much money as those
who are not.
Anecdotally, how about the emotional
toll this rampant sexuality takes
on the individual? Years later
you would be amazed at the men
and women I talk to in my church
who are still hurting from the
way they were either sexually
abused or used - depending on
whether it was consensual or not
- when they were younger. From
my own experience, I know the
impact pornography has on the
way we men look at women, including
our wives.
So, tell me then, if more sex
equals more freedom, how do you
explain these consequences?
I know it's hard to say "no,"
and I certainly wasn't a virgin
on my wedding night, so I am not
trying to shame anyone. But I
also know that I still reap mentally
and emotionally what I have sown
for my poor choices years ago.
I didn't have a dad who accepted
me, who mentored me to manhood.
So I covered that wound with women,
either real or imagined. Perhaps
you can relate? Or, perhaps you're
a young lady who wasn't daddy's
princess so you're giving yourself
away to males your age who seem
to pay you attention?
There is a better way. God created
sex and made it pleasurable for
a reason. As far as He is concerned,
go forth and multiply. Heck, get
your mate and enjoy yourselves
with mirrors on the ceiling if
you want. I have two kids of my
own, and they didn't appear via
osmosis. My wife and I did the
deed - and it was good.
However, God says to keep sex
within the boundaries of marriage
for a reason. And that's not because
He is trying to limit our orgasms,
but because He loves us and doesn't
want to see those He created for
a special purpose destroy themselves.
A wise man named Moses once
told a large gathering of people,
"I have set before you blessing
and curse, life and death. Choose
life."
About your sexuality, God is
saying the same thing today. Please
choose wisely. What may seem like
fun and the right thing now may
not be later on. And later on
always comes. CV
