Des Moines City Councilmember Tom Vlassis was recently approved to travel to Macon, Ga., from Sept. 7-11 for a National League of Cities meeting. As a member of the steering committee and the city's representative to the NLC, Vlassis will meet with other city officials on the Community and Economic Development roster on Sept. 9-10. His travel will cost $1,000.

SALARIES AND SUCH

Starting her appointment on Sept. 1, Cindy Browne, the new executive director of Iowa Public Radio, will earn $120,000 annually.
