Stuffed full of Relish
We have been publishing our Relish
guide to food and fine dining
for more than five years. The
packaging of it has certainly
changed, going from an insert,
to center pages, to its own publication,
and now to the cover of Cityview.
Quick history: Relish started
in the spring of 2003 and debuted
as an insert in Pointblank, a
now defunct alternative newsweekly
that we once published. When we
purchased Cityview in April of
2005, Relish made its move there
and was a great addition, providing
in-depth food and dining coverage
of the local scene to even more
readers. The publication’s following
grew so much that we decided to
let it stand on its own, and in
the fall of 2006, Relish debuted
as its own publication with a
slick and glossy cover in a magazine
format, available for free at
several hundred locations across
the metro. And now you will find
it as the cover story of Cityview,
with additional food-related stories
and photos packing this issue.
Why the change? You told us
that you loved Relish, but that
you had difficulty finding it.
By making Relish the cover story
of Cityview, it now has the strength
of Cityview’s readership and distribution.
And it gives Des Moines’ independent
newsweekly some great content
that centers around one of the
most popular forms of entertainment
— dining.
The one thing that has been
consistent through the years has
been the writing of our food critic,
Jim Duncan. Jim is a longtime
Des Moines resident, and his knowledge
of the local food scene is unmatched.
He and our staff have written
educational, informative and entertaining
articles once again, and we are
pleased to present them to our
Cityview readers.
Thanks for reading.
