For those
about to rock…
Big concert calendar
brings Des Moines alive
If you are a serious rocker in
Central Iowa and won’t be attending
one of the many concerts that
will take place this week, then
you deserve to have your head
bitten off. Get off the couch.
Des Moines’ music scene is alive.
Gov’t Mule fans will rock Hoyt
Sherman with a concert on Friday.
And although I haven’t heard an
Ozzy Osbourne tune for a decade
or so, I am sure there will be
a number of followers who will
“bark at the moon” at Vet’s on
Friday. People’s Court is stepping
up to the plate with Cracker on
Tuesday, which surely will have
a strong turnout. Puddle of Mud
will excite fans in their own
fashion in the suburbs at the
Val Air on Nov. 8. And for the
entertainment of middle-of-the
road aging white folks like me,
John Mellencamp will play Wells
Fargo on Nov. 9 (that’s John Cougar
for those of you who missed a
couple decades). Reporters Jason
Hancock and Jared Curtis, along
with editor Michael Swanger, provide
previews of these concerts in
this week’s cover.
These concerts are the types
of events that Des Moines music
fans have begged for. Take full
advantage of these opportunities
and support the music scene. For
those of you who have already
purchased tickets, we salute you.
For those who haven’t, there’s
still time.
So turn off “American Idol”
and go see the real things while
they are here. Let’s prove to
the naysayers that the music scene
is alive right here in Des Moines.
Just get your rabies shots first.
Thanks for reading.
