I'm with stupid
Jon Gaskell's piece, "Hey,
stupid" (Jan. 19) is excellent.
I hope it somehow ends up on the
desk of every legislator, school
superintendent, school board member...
and parent.

More stupid
I hope everyone thinks the way
Jon Gaskell and I do ("Hey,
stupid," Jan. 19). I am very
concerned for this country and
its educational system, and the
fact that it seems that "average"
is the new target of success.

Paradise lost - on him
If your story on homeless people
("Down and out in paradise,"
Jan. 19) was supposed to make
me feel bad, you failed. The woman
in the article smoked, drank,
did drugs, got high while pregnant,
and the list goes on and on. Then,
at the end, she's still smoking.
At a pack a day and $3 per pack,
had she quit smoking she would
have had that $250 for a room
at the YWCA a lot quicker. Instead,
she's now leaching off taxpayers.
Take some freakin' responsibility.

It's not his money
I see in your Jan. 19 issue,
in the "It's Your Money"
column, that the City of Des Moines
paid $200 for a "Stryker"
pocket knife - "for the Chief
of Police." Was this for
his official use and is it the
property of the city, or was this
some type of gift for his own
use? It was only $200 so it probably
doesn't matter. We really shouldn't
worry about such small expenses.
We don't want to micro-manage
the activities of our public servants.
I'm sure there must be a good
explanation.

Cityview disgusts him
You people at Cityview have come
to a new low. Calling Sen. Charles
Grassley a "dust-farting
reptile," and insinuating
he was giving a hand job to Supreme
Court nominee Samuel Alito ("The
List," Jan. 19) is not only
uncalled for but also completely
without merit. The demo-commies
on that committee were the real
idiots in these hearings. Ted
Kennedy is the one who was questioning
Alito's ethics and he was the
one who killed a girl in his own
car while he was swimming to shore
with, I am sure, a bottle of booze
stuffed under his arm. Get real.
Who are these hypocritical libs
who think they know anything about
ethics when their god Bill Clinton
couldn't even keep his pants on
when a mediocre intern wanted
to blow the presidential skin
flute? You have the ever-so-popular
agenda there at Cityview that
all the other media outlets in
the world have. You disgust me.

A church affair - and
loveseats
Though I don't like the idea,
I believe "gays" should
not be allowed to be "married"
("Pigheaded," Dec. 29)
but instead should have "union"
or some other word describing
whatever it is they are doing.
Marriage is between men and women
and should stay so. We need a
different word to differentiate
the two for semantic reasons.
For example, we differentiate
the difference between rugs and
carpets; between three and four;
between couch, loveseat, and chair,
all furniture and seats. Marriage
is considered a sacrament and
deemed by God in Genesis. It is
therefore a church affair and
should not be interfered with
by the state.
