The managing editor and moderator of TV's "Meet the Press" is the keynote speaker for the Greater Des Moines Partnership's 117th Annual Dinner tonight at Hy-Vee Hall. Tim Russert also serves as the senior vice president and Washington bureau chief of "NBC News," is a political analyst for "NBC Nightly News" and "Today" and is a contributing anchor for MSNBC. His first book, "Big Russ & Me," was a No. 1 New York Times bestseller. friday13

Chris Mills & the New Miserable Bastards
9 p.m.
Maintenance Shop
Chris Mills has made a record in a way that records haven't been made for 40 years, and the result is a self-proclaimed "personal masterpiece." "The Wall to Wall Sessions," released in October, was created by Mills and a 17-piece "Chicago indie rock big band" in just two-and-a-half days. They performed live while simultaneously mixing to a two-track tape machine, capitalizing on the studio's orchestra pit and 30-foot ceilings. There are no overdubs (including the vocal tracks), and all of the songs were recorded in five or fewer takes. Over the course of his four albums, Mills has shared the stage with Wilco, Nick Lowe and the Mekons. See Chris Mills & the New Miserable Bastards tonight at the Maintenance Shop in the ISU Memorial Union. Tickets are $6 for students and $8 for the public in advance. Ticket prices increase $1 day of show.

saturday14
"Triplets of Belleville"
2 p.m.
Vaudeville Mews
The Iowa Bicycle Coalition is hosting a free screening of "The Triplets of Belleville" this afternoon, with donations going toward the group's mission of promoting Iowa cycling as safe and enjoyable recreation and transportation. "The Triplets of Belleville" is a critically acclaimed, animated French film about a boy named Champion who trains relentlessly for the Tour de France, with the help of his grandmother and overweight dog Bruno, before he's kidnapped. This very strange, stylish film is a throwback to a time when animation was not dominated by CGI graphics, and is fueled by a soundtrack of strange '30s-era jazz.

sunday15

David Wilcox
7 p.m.
First Christian Church
Although David Wilcox took four lessons with a classical guitarist, he developed his unique guitar style - a blend of jazz and folk - on his own. Using a variety of tunings and a capo that produces an usual sound, Wilcox plays music - punctuated with his baritone vocals and intimate stage persona - that is often compared to James Taylor and John Martyn. Wilcox will perform tonight at the First Christian Church, 2501 University Ave. The cost is $15 for main floor general admission and $12.50 for balcony general admission. Tickets are available at Peeples Music and the First Christian Church office.

monday16
Alec Soth's "Sleeping by the Mississippi"
11 a.m. - 4 p.m.
Downtown Des Moines Art Center
Inspired by the pull of the Mississippi River and the river-bound adventures of Huck Finn, Minneapolis-based photographer Alec Soth took several road trips along the body of water. From Minnesota to Louisiana, Soth documented the eccentric people, unusual landscapes and curious interiors with 20 large-scale photographs and an accompanying hardcover book. Soth's "Sleeping By the Mississippi" will be at the Downtown Des Moines Art Center through April 24.

tuesday17

The Holmes Brothers
8 p.m.
Blues on Grand
All in one set, The Holmes Brothers might cover as much ground as gospel, roadhouse blues, deep soul, barroom country and pop. Rooted in blues and gospel, The Holmes Brothers - made up of bassist Sherman Holmes, guitarist/keyboardist Wendell Holmes and drummer Popsy Dixon - have been performing together since 1979, and have recorded with Van Morrison, Peter Gabriel, Odetta, Phoebe Snow, Jungle Brothers and Joan Osborne. wednesday18
Ron Kenny
8 p.m.
Funny Bone
Having performed for more than 25 years at almost every college, cruise ship and comedy club in the country, Ron Kenny now spends most of his time performing in Las Vegas and Reno. He's also appeared on MTV, Comedy Central, HBO, VH1's "Comedy on the Road" and A&E's "Evening at the Improv," and has opened for performers including Lou Rawls, Neil Sedaka and Andrew Dice Clay.
