NUDE AND CONFUSED
Police were dispatched to the 900 block of
School Street at 3:30 a.m. on Aug. 5 after a
man reportedly woke up to the sound of a woman
screaming outside his apartment building. The
21-year-old woman was found to be completely
naked, standing out on the sidewalk. She allegedly
refused to put on her clothing and said she
had been raped. Then she reportedly started
to point to every person that was standing around
the complex as the person who raped her. She
was transported to the hospital.
ROBBER IN THE RIVER
A woman was working late at the H&A Mini
Mart, 145 University Ave., on Aug. 4, when a
man allegedly came in and asked for a bottle
of Absolut Vodka. That’s when he reportedly
grabbed her by the neck and demanded she open
the register or he would kill her. He pushed
her behind the register area, still holding
her by the neck, and told her to open the drawer.
He also stole packs of Newport cigarettes, some
of which police found on the ground outside
later. An off-duty cop heard the robbery on
his radio and saw someone he believed to be
the suspect. He described what he saw over police
radio, and area officers flooded the area where
the suspect was seen, at West Riverside Drive,
north of the I-235 overpass at the Des Moines
River. Once surrounded, the 31-year-old suspect
jumped into the Des Moines River to escape.
Officers talked the suspect out of the water
after a short stand-off, and he surrendered.
He was charged with second-degree robbery and
interference. He was already wanted for an Aug.
