Twin Peaks is always hiring foxy staffers
with a bubbly attitude, a friendly disposition…
and other qualities, too. |
By Amber Williams
It’s hard not to feel like Hugh Hefner at the
Playboy mansion, or perhaps Charles Townsend
of “Charlie’s Angels” is a better comparison,
as you walk into the new Twin Peaks Sports Bar
and Grill in West Des Moines. Much the way the
three Angels greeted their boss in unison: “Hi
Charlieeee,” so do the girls who make up the
wait staff at Twin Peaks upon entering: “Hiiiiyeeee,”
a line of hotties sing to each guest as he or
she comes through the door.
Before a visitor notices the stuffed raccoon
mounted on a timber rafter overhead, the wall-to-wall
flat screen TVs calling out different sports
games or the tappers offering a variety of draft
beers to be served at below freezing temperatures,
he or she notices the striking sexuality of
the staff at the hostess station.
“We’re making regulars every day just because
they want to come back to see the girls,” area
director Jim Snider admitted. “We have cute
girls, but if we sold a bad product, you’re
not going to come back. Our product speaks for
itself.”
Along with the quality of the ladies who serve
up “scratch, home-made comfort foods,” according
to Snider, Twin Peaks also brings an outdoor
sports, rustic atmosphere that gives that feeling
of a mountain man’s ultimate man cave. (If John
Wayne, Clint Eastwood and Robert Redford were
going out for steak and beers, this is where
they’d belly up.) Originating in Texas, Twin
Peaks is a franchise found in few places throughout
the country.
Most of the girls are in town from Texas, California
and Omaha locations in order to train the new
local hires, and Snider said he’s always looking
for more girls to “audition” for the job. The
criteria is mostly about attitude, he said,
but they also look for “attractive girls who
fit into the uniform standards.”
At the bar, a saucy, little blonde from Des
Moines serves a line of (mostly male) patrons
beer from the tap in “man-sized” 20-ounce frosted
mugs. The kegs are kept at 29 degrees (below
freezing), which is measured by a temperature
gauge mounted on the wall, so customers know
the beer is as cold as it can be without turning
to a beer-scicle. It’s poured into frozen mugs,
so that by the time the rim touches your lips,
the beer has already began to crystallize with
icy freshness so ideal that the bartender is
less of a wench and more of a beer goddess.
Among the draft beers are two house flavors:
Dirty Blonde, which is a frothy wheat, and Knotty
Brunette, a brown ale. The Twin Peaks theme
also carries over to the cocktails with a Sex
on the Peaks (vodka, peach schnapps, cranberry
and orange juice) and Kitty Whipped (Pinnacle
whipped vodka, Sailor Jerry and Amaretto). Twin
Peaks also offers “premium shooters” and $2.99
shots all day.
“We know we’re not for everybody, but we encourage
everybody to come in and at least give us a
try,” Snider said, noting that it’s as much
of a family restaurant as it is a man’s dream
bar. “The ladies who come in here have just
as much fun as the guys.” CV
