Enjoy classic musical theater

The Des Moines Gay Men’s Chorus will perform a Cabaret concert on Friday, March 23 and Saturday, March 24 at the Civic Center’s Temple Theater, 1011 Locust St. Throughout the show, the chorus, featuring Ben Hagen and Men in Harmony, will make over American musical theater classics like “Annie Get Your Gun,” “Guys and Dolls,” Company” and “Little Mary Sunshine,” as well as pop music favorites from Katy Perry and Judy Garland. Spring Shootout

The Prairie Tractor Pullers will hold its 8th annual Spring Shootout on Friday, March 23 and Saturday, March 24 at the Iowa State Fairgrounds Pioneer Pavilion, East 30th Street and East University Avenue. Pullers from throughout the U.S. will be competing side by side in a number of categories including indoor garden tractor, mini rod pulling and stock tractors. Book signing for local pastor

Rev. Dr. Robert Cook, a local retired Presbyterian pastor, will be signing copies of his new book, “When the Sun Comes Up in the West,” on Saturday, March 24 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Highland Park Presbyterian Church, 321 Euclid Ave. “When the Sun Comes Up in the West” is a first-person account of Dr. Cook’s experiences and thoughts as he visited and lived with poverty-stricken residents of El Salvador every year since 1990.
