The House of Bricks celebrates the eighth anniversary of Say What! by hosting an evening of poetry and open mic performances on Thursday, March 15 at 6:30 p.m. Admission is $5. The club also hosts an all-ages concert by Los Angeles rockers Modern Day Escape (on tour promoting its forthcoming album, “Under the Gun”) with Switchblade Saturdays, Darkhorse and Simple Sighs ($12, Ticketfly) on Sunday, March 18 at 5 p.m. and The Growlers, Night Beats and TRMRS ($10, Tikly) on Wednesday, March 21 at 7:30 p.m.

The Ritual Cafe hosts performances by The Honeybees on Friday, March 16 at 7 p.m. and Big John Burns on Saturday, March 17 at 7 p.m. Admission TBA.

The Gas Lamp will host its first annual St. Pabst Day on Saturday, March 17, a street party featuring live music by Green Day tribute band American Idiots, Misfits tribute act Horror Business, Boom Chick, Strangefellows, Black Box Revelation, DJ Richie Daggers, Lipstick Homicide, Rebel Creek and No Good Deed. Admission is $20 and includes all you can drink. Gates open at 9 a.m.

Jam band Strange Apartment ($7) plays the Vaudeville Mews on Saturday, March 17 at 9 p.m. followed by singer-songwriter Rachel Platten ($10) on Sunday, March 18 at 7 p.m., metal bands Warbringer and Dark Mirror ($12) on Monday, March 19 at 5:30 p.m. and alt-rock groups Design the Skyline, The Browning, From Atlantis, Nightmares for Dreamers and Corpse ($12) on Tuesday, March 20 at 5 p.m.

Celtic musician Sarah Hobart plays a free show on Saturday, March 17 at 7 p.m. at Java Joe’s Coffeehouse.

Rebelution, The Green and Pep Love perform Wednesday, March 21 at 8 p.m. at People’s Court. Tickets are $15 through Ticketfly.

Des Moines native jazz singer Max Wellman plays March 23 at 7:30 p.m. at Faith Lutheran Church in Clive. Admission is a freewill offering.

Stephen’s Auditorium in Ames hosts The Fab Four - The Ultimate Tribute ($20-$33) on March 23 and the vocal ensemble Chanticleer ($20-$32) on May 1. Tickets are available at Ticketmaster.

The Village People play Terrible’s Lakeside Casino on March 23-24 at 8 p.m. Tickets are $10-$25.

The Greater Des Moines Music Coalition has announced the lineup for its seventh annual Gross Domestic Product concert on April 14 at the Hotel Fort Des Moines. Ten bands will perform on two stages, including Hath No Fury, Mumfords, The River Monks and Christopher the Conquered & His Black Gold Brass Band. Tickets are $10 in advance through Tikly. Big Red Dog Productions has booked The Cold Hard Cash Show ($10), a tribute to Johnny Cash, to play the Gas Lamp on April 16 and blues-rock guitarist Chris Duarte ($12) to play the House of Bricks on May 6. Visit
