‘Prairie Spirit’ and ‘Cinderella’ presented by the DMACC Huff Theatre

DMACC Campus, Building 6, 2006 South Ankeny Blvd., Ankeny

March 8-9, March 10-11

The DMACC Theater Department presents “Prairie Spirit,” the group’s 82nd production.

The story is a mixture of a horror and a slacker film, focusing on a classic slumber party gone wrong. While the bodies stack up, casual indifference is the social norm. Performance times are 11:15 a.m., 12:50 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Thursday, March 15, and 10:10 a.m., 11:15 a.m., 12:20 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Friday, March 9. Admission is $1.

The group will also perform a ballet version of “Cinderella” on March 10 (2 and 7 p.m.) and March 11 (2 p.m.) at the Urbandale Performing Arts Center, 7111 Aurora Ave., Urbandale. Admission is $20 for adults, $10 for students 17 and under, available at

‘The Cripple of Inishmaan’ presented by Mooncoin Entertainment

Des Moines Social Club, Kirkwood Building, 400 Walnut St.

March 15-17, 22-24

The grand finale of The Martin McDonagh Project — the first-ever complete showcase of Martin McDonagh’s published stage works — ends with “The Cripple of Inishmaan.” When Hollywood director Robert Flaherty comes to the Aran Islands in 1934 to film a documentary called “The Man of Aran,” news of auditions sweep through the islands. But nobody wants to be in the film more than Inishmaan resident Billy Claven, who is ridiculed and laughed at by townspeople calling him “Cripple Billy.” But maybe Billy has a better chance at the role than everyone thinks. Admission is $10.

‘In the Next Room or the Vibrator Play’ presented by StageWest

The Civic Center’s Stoner Theatre, 221 Walnut St.

March 23 through April 1

StageWest is proud to present the Iowa premiere of “In the Next Room or the Vibrator Play” starting on March 23. Set in the 1880s at the dawn of the age of electricity, and based on the bizarre historical fact that doctors used vibrators to treat “hysterical” women (and some men), the play centers on a doctor, his wife and how his new therapy affects their entire household. On a larger scale, “In the Next Room or the Vibrator Play” serves as an insightful, provocative commentary on the role of women in a changing world. Admission is $22-$25. CV
