The Synergy Jazz Foundation in Des Moines will host a series of concerts and workshops featuring trumpeter Justin Kisor. They include Kisor performing with the Sam Salomone Trio ($10) on Friday, Jan. 20 at 7:30 p.m. at Drake University’s Turner Jazz Center and the Des Moines Big Band ($10) on Monday, Jan. 23 at 6:30 p.m. at Adventureland Inn. The “Winter Jam Tour Spectacular,” Christian music’s largest annual tour featuring Skillet, Sanctus Real, former Newsboys frontman Peter Furler, Kari Jobe, Building 429, Group 1 Crew, illusionist Brock Gill and speaker Nick Hall, plays Wells Fargo Arena on Friday, Jan. 20. Tickets are $10 at the door.

Veteran country music singer-songwriter Bill Anderson performs at 8 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 20 and Saturday, Jan. 21 at Terrible’s Lakeside Casino. Also, the “Country Gold Tour,” featuring Leroy Van Dyke, Charlie Rich Jr., T. Graham Brown and Rex Allen Jr., plays there Feb. 3-4. Tickets for each concert are $10-$20 at Ticketmaster.

The House of Bricks hosts “Petapalooza,” the annual benefit concert for the Animal Rescue League, on Saturday, Jan. 21 from 5 p.m. until closing time. The event is open to fans of all ages until 9 p.m. and features performances by The Jitz, Madam Jules, Superchief, The Green Vote, Lavonne McRoberts, The Maw, DDR, Johnny Reeferseed Express and others. Admission is $5.

Jazz singer Karrin Allyson performs Saturday, Jan. 21 at 7:30 p.m. at Drake University’s Sheslow Auditorium for the Civic Music Association’s concert series. Tickets are $10-$38 at Midwestix. She is on tour supporting her newly Grammy nominated album, “Round Midnight,” and will participate in a free master’s class with Drake jazz students at the Turner Jazz Center on Friday, Jan. 20 at 2 p.m. that is open to the public. The Memphis Soul Project featuring Scott Bartlett (Saving Abel) and Paul Crosby (Saliva) with SIVA Addiction and Issac James plays People’s Court on Saturday, Jan. 21 at 9 p.m. Tickets are $15... In other People’s news, Mayday Parade, We The Kings, The Downtown Fiction and Anarbor will play an all-ages show there on Feb. 8. Tickets are $18.

Veteran alt-rockers The Lemonheads, who formed in 1986, perform Tuesday, Jan. 24 at 8 p.m. at the Vaudeville Mews. The Shining Twins open the show. Tickets are $15 at Midwestix.

Peter Yarrow of Peter, Paul & Mary fame plays a solo show for the “Live at the Temple” concert series on Tuesday, Jan. 24 at 7:30 p.m. at the Temple for Performing Arts. Tickets are $45 through Ticketmaster.

Pop-rock band Miles Nielsen & The Rusted Hearts, featuring the son of Cheap Trick guitarist Rick Nielsen, plays at the Gas Lamp on Wednesday, Jan. 25 at 8:45 p.m. Admission is $3.

Iowa rock band Head East is celebrating its 40th anniversary and will headline the “Valentine’s Spectacular” on Feb. 11 at the Val Air Ballroom. Sponsored by the Iowa Rock ‘N’ Roll Music Association, the show also includes Sunday Social, James Freeman and the IRRMA All-Stars. Tickets are $25 at Ticketmaster. CV
