On New Year’s Eve, Americans go out and get wasted. Absolutely wasted. We dance, we sing, we eat, we drink, and all those things we enjoy are at the expense of a hard-working wait staff — some 26,000 food servers, kitchen workers, bartenders, hotel receptionists, valet drivers and so many others work the night away throughout the metro. Guys and gals, this night is for you.

Cabaret West Glen and Southern Wines & Spirits of Iowa are rolling out the red carpet for the first annual Service Industry Night New Year’s Eve Party on Sunday, Dec. 18. So, tell the boss you need the night off. This pre-New Year’s Eve party is custom made for you.

“This gives people in the service industry the opportunity to celebrate the big holiday with their friends and actually be able to party instead of having to work, which they usually don’t get to do,” added Kari Ratkovich, Southern Wine & Spirits on premise account manager for central Iowa. “This party is open to everybody, but the focus is especially on people who work in the service industry.”

The idea spawned from Cabaret’s 10-year tradition of offering a weekly “service industry night” at the bar, according to Katie Kellogg, general manager of Cabaret West Glen. The party will include many traditional New Year’s Eve festivities, like a free midnight toast, balloon drop, plenty of party favors and prizes, and a live DJ from Metro Entertainment.

The event kicks off at 8 p.m., and “rolling out the red carpet” is not just a clever phrase. There will literally be red carpet, limousine specials and a professional photographer, Alicia Kennedy, on hand to make guests feel like celebrities for a night.

“We really want people to dress to impress and be prepared to be treated like a star,” Kellogg said.

Service Industry specials for the evening include: limo specials from NPI Limo Service LLC, which will offer deals such as 10 percent off any service with no time minimum required, and $65 for a shuttle or a ride home (call 515-274-3978 to learn more); 20 percent off at Champps Sports Bar, Maxie’s Restaurant (also featuring a prime rib dinner for $16.99) and Saints Pub in West Des Moines; complimentary Bang Bang shrimp appetizer at Bonefish Grill; special pricing from Shaffer’s Impromptu and Skeffington’s Formal Wear; and exclusive bottle service offers with new featured vodkas.

Guests will also get to sample the newest Ciroc Vodka, Belvedere Vodka and Nuvo Liqueur flavors before they are available to the masses.

Table reservations are available, and bottle service specials include $100 for any flavor of Belvedere Vodka or Ciroc Vodka and $175 for the magnum sized 1.75 liter Belvedere bottle. Tables are expected to fill up fast, according to Kellogg. Cover is free.

“Everyone, especially those in the service industry, will have the ability to try these vodkas before anyone else,” Ratkovich added. CV
