Wine and food expo

Iowa’s Premier Wine & Food Expo returns for a fourth year at Hy-Vee Hall at the Iowa Events Center. The two-day event, which takes place Friday, Nov. 11 through Saturday, Nov. 12, is a melting pot for culinary enthusiasts featuring a wide assortment of food; wine; beer and spirit vendors; cooking techniques from national, regional and local chefs; and appearances by celebrity chefs. Are you tough enough to play roller derby?

The Mid Iowa Rollers will be holding tryouts for the 2012 season on Saturday, Nov. 12 and Sunday, Nov. 13. A boot camp will be held at Skate West, 2019 Grand Ave., West Des Moines. You must be female (18 and older) with no medical conditions preventing you from playing a contact sport. Attendees should wear workout clothes and bring a helmet, mouth guard, wrist guards, elbow pads and kneepads. Admission is $10 (pays for both boot camp and tryout). Meet some Iowa authors

The second annual Great Iowa Author Event will take place on Saturday, Nov. 12 at Pritchard’s Book Cafe inside Southridge Mall. Enjoy ‘A Wicked Night Off’

Fans of “Wicked” are in for a treat, as StageWest will host “A Wicked Night Off” on Monday, Nov. 14 at the Stoner Theater, 221 Walnut St. The intimate evening will feature cast and crew from the national touring company of “Wicked.” In addition, there will be auctions of “Wicked” memorabilia as well as a once-in-a-lifetime walk-on role in a performance of “Wicked” during the run at the Civic Center. Tickets are available at the Civic Center Ticket Office, through Ticketmaster or online at http://www.civiccenter.org. Prices are $65 - $100, with special reserved “Green Zone” seating for $125.
