Every time I attend a newspaper publishers’
conference, I hear the same complaints about
the younger generation not reading newspapers.
And, every time, I point out that younger people
may not be reading their newspapers, but they
are reading mine. In fact, more people are reading
Cityview today than ever before in the newspaper’s
history, and 81 percent of our readers are between
the ages of 18 and 44. The answer is in the
content — giving readers what they want. The
same is true for books, as much is often said
about younger people not reading them. That’s
not true either. Provide a younger person with
content that he or she has interest in, and
that book will be read, whether in a traditional
or digital format.
We decided a few years ago to dedicate a cover
story to reviews of books each fall, and the
response has been incredible with more positive
comments and feedback than we could have ever
imagined. So join us in picking up a book and
proving the naysayers wrong once again.
And, as always, thanks for reading. CV
