Hoops for hope

The fifth annual Hoops for Hope Gala takes place on Thursday, Oct. 6 at the Farm Bureau Headquarters Building, 5400 University Ave., West Des Moines. The event starts at 5 p.m. with a VIP reception, followed by cocktails and a silent auction at 5:30 p.m. At 7 p.m., attendees will enjoy dinner, followed by a program and live auction. The U.S. Cellular World Food Festival returns for its 11th year, taking over East Locust Street in the East Village, Friday Oct. 7 through Sunday, Oct. 9. The event takes place from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. (5 p.m. on Sunday) and features a wide variety of restaurants and food vendors offering unique tastes. Along with the food there will be cooking demonstrations, a marketplace and live entertainment including music, magic and more. For more information, visit http://www.worldfoodfestival.org.

Rock out with the Lord

The Citizens with the Saints tour makes a stop at the Faith Lutheran Church, 10395 University Ave., Clive, on Saturday, Oct. 8. The tour features performances by AGAPE and Rachel Kurtz and is part of an all-day event featuring videos, youth testimonies, workshops and more. The youth event begins at 9:30 a.m. with registration and gathering music, with the concert following at 1:30 p.m. Registration is $10 and includes the concert, lunch and meetings. Breathe it in

Fresh Breath Poetry presents “The Revival!” on Thursday, Oct. 13 at Vaudeville Mews. This is a fast-paced show that encompasses different genres of music, spoken word, dance and includes performances from Bella Soul, Jerry Hoehle of Mr. Baber’s Neighbors and many more. The Kees Kamp Dance crew will also perform, ending the show with a mind-blowing pole dance routine by Jen Kees. The show starts at 7:30 p.m., and admission is $5 with a donation of non-perishable food or toiletry items or $10 without a donation.
