Laugh it up

The Comedy Co-operative presents "Comedy On A Schtick," a night of sketch comedy, stand-up and videos, on Friday, Aug. 26 at the Civic Center's Stoner Theater, 221 Walnut St. The show focuses on the Iowa State Fair with attendees learning what the livestock talks about late at night, how they choose the butter sculpture and where they get the freaks for the freak show. Celebrate science

The 13th Annual Science Center of Iowa (SCI) Fundraising Event and Auction takes place on Friday, Aug. 26 from 6 to 11 p.m. Admission is $100 per person or $50 for young professionals (ages 30 and under). Attendees of the event — which helps raise funds for the SCI to support ongoing, interactive science, skills-based learning programs and exhibits — will enjoy live and silent auctions, delectable cuisine, cocktails and live music. Jam to the front of the pack

The Mid Iowa Rollers present "Knockin & Rockin" on Saturday, Aug. 27 at Hy-Vee Hall, 730 3rd St. The Rollers will get down and derby with the Farm Fresh Roller Girls from Rock Island. Along with the bout, there will be a raffle, with all proceeds going to benefit the Victims of Crime Services. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and tickets are $10 in advance (from a Mid Iowa Roller or at the Wells Fargo ticket office) or $13 at the door (12 and under get in free). Help a good cause

Stop out on Friday, Aug. 26 and help support the Des Moines Ronald McDonald House at the annual Red Shoe Event. The event, which takes place at the Tuscany Event Center, 3901 121st St., helps support the Des Moines Ronald McDonald House, which has been serving central Iowa families for 30 years. The celebration takes place from 6 to 10 p.m. and features a silent auction, hors d'oeuvres, desserts, beer, wine and music from Too Cool.
