‘The Shape of Things’ presented by Stage West

The Civic Center’s Stoner Theatre, 221 Walnut St. July 9, 14, 16-17

“The Shape of Things” is an exploration of art, intimacy and people’s willingness to do things for love. Set in a small, Midwestern university town, the story centers on the lives of four young students who become emotionally and romantically entangled as they try to cram academics, jobs, love and meaning into hectic lives. Tickets are $22-$25 or $60 for all three plays (any performance).

‘Fat Pig’ presented by Stage West

The Civic Center’s Stoner Theatre, 221 Walnut St. July 8, 10, 13, 15-16

In “Fat Pig,” conventionally good-looking Tom falls for Helen, a bright, funny, sexy woman who happens to be plus-sized. Forced to explain his new relationship to his perplexed friends, Tom must come to terms with his own preconceived notions of love and attraction. Tickets are $22-$25 or $60 for all three plays (any performance).

‘Bland Mary’ and ‘Daisy’ presented by the DMACC Huff Theatre

The DMMAC Huff Theatre presents two plays — “Bland Mary,” a comedy which examines how the modern world and its relentless stimulation has dulled our senses; and “Daisy,” a short play about a child’s first social dilemma: choosing the perfect birthday gift for a friend. Performances on July 15 are at 1 and 7 p.m.; July 16 at 3 and 7 p.m.; July 22 at 8 p.m. and July 23 at 3 and 8 p.m. Admission is $1.

‘Shakespeare on the Lawn: As You Like It’ presented by the Repertory Theater of Iowa

Repertory Theater of Iowa returns to Salisbury House & Gardens for “Shakespeare on the Lawn.” This summer’s event will feature “As You Like It.” Guest artist, Karla Kash, will direct the show.

Shakesperience Fest 2011 features two plays:
