Bottoms Up Bar & Grill

By Jared Curtis

Bartender Adara Berry pours a Blue Hawaiian at Bottoms Up Bar & Grill, 607 S.E. 30th St. Hours are Sunday through Thursday, 6 a.m. to close and Friday and Saturday, 6 to 2 a.m.

New bar looks to shine during the fair

Walking through the door of the Bottoms Up Bar & Grill, located just south of the fairgrounds, I was amazed at how different the place looked from past establishments. What used to be a rough and rundown roadhouse has been upgraded to a fresh and new neighborhood bar.

"The owner took over in April and put a lot of time and effort into fixing this place up," said manager Sara Kain. "It has all new wood, and they opened up an entirely new room for customers to enjoy themselves."

With its new look and feel, Bottoms Up is ready to contribute to the fairground neighborhood with bar standards like Gerri's Tavern, Main Gate Bar & Grill and Toad's Tavern.

"There is a great group of bars around here, and we're glad to be a part of that scene," Kain said.

The bar serves food from open to close with breakfast available starting at 6 a.m. The menu is filled with bar favorites including appetizers, sandwiches and burgers including the tasty Bottoms Up burger.

"People really enjoy our burgers," Kain said. "And we're the perfect place to recover from a long night with some breakfast and a Bloody Mary."

Happy Hour runs from 3 to 7 p.m., daily. Patrons can enjoy $2.25 cans/bottles, $1.50 Old Milwaukee and 50 cents off everything else. If you can't make it for Happy Hour, stop by and enjoy their different specials that run all day. Stop in Monday for $1.50 domestic bottles and cans. Celebrate Bike Night on Tuesday with two-for-one well drinks. Enjoy Happy Hour prices all day on Wednesday as well as $1 off fishbowl drinks. Tip back $2 well drinks and $2 Dekuyper shots on Thursday. Start the weekend off right on Friday with $1 house shots and $4 bombs. Enjoy $1 Jello shots and $3 Bloody Marys on Saturday as well as a double elimination $5 entry pool tournament starting at 3 p.m. Get ready for the work with on Sunday with 25-cent pool, two Tallboys for $4 and $1 off small well pitchers.

"We have some great specials, and people seem to enjoy the new drinks we've started offering," Kain said.

The drinks Kain speak of include margaritas, blended fruit margaritas, fishbowls and small pitchers filled with your favorite well drink.
"We wanted to add something new to the bar menu, and so far people have enjoyed them," she said.

During the fair, patrons are encouraged to stop by and enjoy the daily specials. They are also running a "Fair Workers Special," which allows people working at the fair to stop in, show their identification badge and receive Happy Hour prices all day.

"Along with the drink specials, we'll also be offering some fair food specials," Kain said.

With all the new changes, Kain hopes patrons will take a chance and head over the bridge to see what the new Bottoms Up Bar & Grill is all about.

"We have a great crowd who like to have fun, and we pride ourselves on offering great specials, good prices and a friendly staff," she said. "We're a great place to enjoy a drink or two and the perfect place to stop in before or after you check out the fair." CV
