32 annual Adel Sweet Corn Festival takes place
Aug. 12-13 in downtown Adel. This year's celebration,
with the theme, "How Sweet It Is,"
starts at 5 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 12 with the
corn-shucking event. On Saturday, Aug. 13, the
event kicks off at 9:30 a.m. with the largest
parade in Dallas County. At 10 a.m., patrons
can eat free sweet corn until it's gone. Starting
at 11 a.m., attendees can enjoy a plethora of
live entertainment throughout the day including
the Adel Tumbling Club, the Adel Dance Club,
the Sugar Creek Cloggers and live music from
The Heartbeats, Fat Tuesday and the Greasefire

Get down and derby
The Mid Iowa Rollers presents "Night of
the Rolling Dead" on Saturday, Aug. 13
at Hy-Vee Hall. The team will be taking on the
Old Capitol City Roller Girls in a derby bout.
Along with the bout there will be a raffle,
with proceeds benefiting The Make A Wish Foundation.
Doors open at 6:30 p.m. with the bout starting
at 7 p.m. Tickets are $10 in advance or $13
at the door (12 and under are free). If you're
18 or older, take a chance and see the bout
just feet away from the action in the suicide
seating. After the bout, stick around and get
an autograph or a photo taken with your favorite

Check out American muscle cars
The Mustang Club of Central Iowa presents the
Mustang Club of America's National Show series
on Aug 13-14. The free event, which takes place
at the Holiday Inn Airport, 6111 Fleur Drive,
will feature more than 300 Mustangs from across
the U.S. on display. Along with the cars, there
will be plenty of vendors offering a variety
of Mustang-related goods. For more information,

Shop and rock
On Saturday, Aug. 13, the "Shop Til You
Rock" event takes place at the Jordan Creek
Town Center from 1 to 6 p.m. The celebration,
which is a music-inspired mall tour that invites
teens to experience the ultimate rock star treatment,
features live music, games, prizes and deals.
