Iowa Asian Alliance annual golf event will
be held Sept. 8 at Echo Valley in Norwalk. |
Golfers, this is your chance to try out a course
you may have never had the privilege before
at the Second Annual Golf Event benefiting the
Iowa Asian Alliance (IAA) at private country
club, Echo Valley in Norwalk.
The event will raise awareness of IAA's mission
which is dedicated to uniting the state's Asian
and Asian-American communities for the purposes
of fostering economic growth, according to IAA
treasurer Stan Lam. All are welcome to participate.
"Yes, it's good to raise proceeds for the
Alliance, but our goal isn't to raise a tremendous
amount of money," Lam said. "If we
break even, we consider it a win. Golf is a
great venue for bringing people together. It's
fun and friendly."
This 4-Man or Woman Best ball golf event is
a great chance for the community to become familiar
with the IAA nonprofit organization and its
members while having fun, he said. And because
it's a "best ball" format, even novice
and first-time golfers can play without the
pressures of playing well.
"That's what makes it fun. You don't have
to be a great golfer. You can take a break on
one hole and play on a teammates ball,"
he said.
Individual golfers or business-formed teams
of any skill level are welcome to participate.
Check-in begins at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, Sept.
8 with a shotgun start at 12:30 p.m.
Early Bird Special fees are available until
Aug. 15. The cost for an individual is $75 and
$300 for a team of four. After Aug. 15 the cost
for an individual is $85 and $340 for a team
of four. Prizes will be awarded to the top three
finishing teams. Prizes will also be awarded
for the longest drive, closest to the pin and
longest put.
"New this year is a Hole-In-One contest
with a chance to win $5,000," Lam said.
Businesses can also support the event by sponsoring
a hole for only $150.

Locker Room note:
One of the world's most famous golfers is now
a comic book sensation. The new Tiger Woods
biography comic book series, "Fame: Tiger
Woods," was launched last week. The Bluewater
Productions publication hit stores on July 13.
"Tiger Woods is, in most respects, the
most famous golfer of all time," said Jason
M. Schultz, executive vice president of Bluewater
Productions Inc. "He may have had some
recent troubles, but his life is one filled
with very interesting tidbits."
The biography is just that — a peek into Woods'
life and how it led to him becoming a national
golf icon and one of the most famous sports
stars in the history of the United States and
the world. It's a way for sports fans, golf
fans, Woods fans and even those who are obsessed
with the celebrity gossip to learn about the
man behind all of these news stories, Schultz
said.
Woods appears on the cover, which was designed
by artist Tony Foti. The interior art is illustrated
by Marcelo Salaza and written by CW Cooke. The
issue will retail for $3.99 and be available
through most online venues like Amazon.com as
well as local comic book stores. To order the
book online at http://www.barnesandnoble.com.
The "Fame" series was launched earlier
in 2010 as a companion piece to the successful
"Female Force" and "Political
Power" biography titles. The comic allows
Bluewater to delve into the celebrity culture
and understand how a person rises to fame, deals
with the newfound celebrity and continue to
produce in the public eye. CV
