The dogs that bark the loudest
We appreciate having vehicles to get us from point A to point B, and we like
being able to arrive at our destinations via roads that are well maintained.
We often take these for granted, until we endure bumper-cars-like commutes over
6-inch potholes and crumbled blacktop, praying that we won't have to spend the
next 15 minutes with a tire iron and a jack. In our modern-day arrogance, we
expect all the roads we travel to be perfect. The ones we don't travel, not
so much. That's why pleasing all central Iowa drivers with road repair is a
challenge, especially with tighter budgets and smaller staffs. So we complain,
and the dogs that bark the loudest are heard the most. In this week's cover
story, we share many of those barks with stories and photos of what our readers
say are the worst roads in the metro.
Meanwhile, keep your tires inflated to the proper levels and watch where you
are driving. Traveling on some of these roads can be treacherous.
