Fans can select the final Iowa band to perform on the Wellmark Main Stage at the 80/35 Fest on July 2 when People’s Court hosts a play-in showcase on Thursday, June 16 at 7 p.m. Admission is $5.

Modern Superstar, as seen on Tattoo Tony’s “Under My Skin” and CMT’s “All Jacked Up,” performs a free show on Thursday, June 16 at 9 p.m. at the Hull Avenue Tavern. The Knobs open.

Quiet Riot plays the Val Air Ballroom on Thursday, June 16 at 8 p.m. Tickets are $20 through Ticketmaster... In other Val Air news, Gorilla Zoe and the Nappy Roots performs there on June 23 ($30).

Boggy Depot plays Thursday, June 16 from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at Music in the Junction in West Des Moines. Admission is Free.

The House of Bricks hosts two all-ages, hard rock shows this week: The Texas Hippie Coalition ($15) returns on Thursday, June 16 at 5 p.m. with openers Superchief and Controlled Chaos. On Friday, June 17, Primer 55, El Diablo and September ($15) perform at 5 p.m.

Legendary singer-songwriter John Prine returns to the Civic Center of Greater Des Moines for a performance on Friday, June 17 at 8 p.m. Iris DeMent, Greg Brown’s wife, opens the show. Tickets are $39.50 and $59.50 through Ticketmaster.

Local rock band Wolves in the Attic celebrates the release of its newest tape (that’s right, tape) with a show on Friday, June 17 at 10 p.m. at the Vaudeville Mews. Admission is $5.

Singer-songwriter Kristie Stremel performs Friday, June 17 at 7 p.m. at Ritual Cafe. Admission TBA.

Women get the blues this week at All Play. On Friday, June 17 at 9:30 p.m., singer-pianist Kelley Hunt ($15) celebrates the release of her new album, “Gravity Loves You.” The “Blues Caravan — Girls With Guitars” ($10) featuring Dani Wilde, Samantha Fish and Cassie Taylor, plays Tuesday, June 21 at 8 p.m.

Christina Perri has cancelled her June 23 show at Nitefall on the River due to “needed vocal rest.” Tickets will be refunded.

Jack’s Mannequin, the side project of Something Corporate’s Andrew McMahon, plays Wednesday, June 22 at 7 p.m. at People’s Court. Tickets are $26.50 at Midwestix.

Corey Taylor’s debut book, “Seven Deadly Sins,” is out in July.

The Metro Arts Alliance will present a Jazz in July “Finale Festival” on July 30 at Jordan Creek Town Center Lake District in West Des Moines from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. The day-long event will include food, drinks, kids activities, artwork and music from the West Des Moines Youth Jazz Band, Community Jazz Center Big Band, Valley High School Jazz Band, Johnston Station Jazz Band, Turner Center Jazz Orchestra and Bella Soul featuring Tina Haase Findlay.
