By a unanimous vote, the Des Moines City Council recently submitted applications to the Iowa Department of Transportation (IDOT) for Fiscal Year 2013 Traffic Safety Funds for three projects. The IDOT has an annual program to provide funds for Traffic Safety Fund improvements. After reviewing various locations, the city staff has developed three projects for submittal: Beaver Avenue and Urbandale Avenue intersection roundabout; East 4th Street traffic signals at Court Avenue and Walnut Street; and a citywide school flasher system upgrade at a total projected cost of $1,755,000.
