NFFF Memorial Golf Tournament


The 2nd Annual Greater Des Moines National Fallen Firefighters Foundation (NFFF) Memorial Golf Tournament will be held on Friday June 17, at The Legacy Golf Club in Norwalk to honor firefighters who died in the line of duty, provide resources for their surviving family members and prevent future fire service fatalities. The competition is a best-ball scramble format, and the public is encouraged to participate. The Indianola Fire Department Honor Guard will present the Colors before tee off, accompanied by the MacKenzie Highlanders Bag Pipes. Ray Reynolds, State of Iowa Fire Marshal, will serve as keynote speaker. The day’s events include: an Iowa Pork Chop lunch; free beer donated by sponsor 1-800-BOARDUP; raffles with numerous prizes; awards for longest drive, closest-to-the pin and longest putt; and a chance to win a brand new Toyota Tacoma with a hole-in-one on the fifth hole. 2011 Annual Tax Sale


Mary Maloney, Polk County Treasurer, has announced that the 2011 Annual Tax Sale will begin on Monday, June 27 at 7:30 a.m. at the Iowa Events Center at 501 Grand Ave. If you have delinquent property taxes and wish to avoid the tax sale, payment must be physically received in the Treasurer’s office by 5 p.m., Friday, June 24. All Iowa Wine Festival


The All Iowa Wine Festival is returning to Adel, located 20 miles west on Hickman Road, on Saturday, June 18 at the corner of Main and 10th Streets from 4- 9 p.m. Guests will enjoy tastings from 10 central Iowa wineries, food and music from Brother Trucker from 5-9 p.m. For four years, the Adel Chamber of Commerce has organized a summer wine festival. For $15, attendees will receive entry to the festival, a commemorative wine glass, wine samples and a $5-off coupon toward the purchase of a bottle of Iowa wine.
