A one-word answer to our problems
Jobs. This one word seems to be the answer to most of our problems in this
state and this nation. When people are happily employed and have dollars in
their pockets to spend, all other problems are seemingly insignificant. So
when Gov. Branstad made 200,000 jobs a focus of his campaign for governor,
Iowans listened attentively and supported him at the polls. We listened, too,
and now we are asking questions. The answers — like many in politics — are
a bit fuzzy, as you will see in this week’s cover story, written by Bret
Voorhees.
This is Vorhees’ first piece in Cityview, and we welcome his 35 years
of experience in communications to our pages. He started on the print side
before working for five years in local television news. Voorhees was Communications
Coordinator for the Iowa Lottery for 11 years and most recently a Bureau
Chief at Iowa Homeland Security and Emergency Management where he served
as the State’s lead Public Information Officer for dozens of disasters.
His perspective helps broaden our mission in providing alternative views
to important subjects.
Thanks for reading. CV
