Burglary at the South Port Sports Bar, 1100 block of Army Post
Road. Police were dispatched because of an alarm. They saw a coin-operated
game was knocked over. The front of it was broken, and the cash
box was gone. Tool marks were present on the juke box. No one was
found inside, but officers decided entry was probably gained through
an old air duct, which had a hole cut in it and a rope hanging down
out of it.
March 7, 8:30 a.m.
Robbery at the Des Moines Water Works, 2200 block of George Flagg
Parkway. A woman went to DMWW to pay her water bill. A man in line
behind her noticed her envelope containing money for her rent and
water bill. When she got to the parking lot, the man approached
her and tried to pull her purse off of her arm. The purse ripped
and the envelope full of cash fell to the ground. He picked up the
money and left in a red vehicle.
March 6, 1:56 p.m.
Assault at the 3000 block of East University Avenue. The victim
reported he was assaulted by his son-in-law after a verbal argument
turned physical. He told police his son-in-law pushed him to the
ground and tried to choke him. However, police reported no signs
of injury to the alleged victim, and that “he did not appear to
have been pushed down.”
March 6, 1:30 a.m.
Assault causing injury at the Courtside Bar & Grill. The alleged victim found police at night watch at a nearby convenient store. He came inside the store yelling about being assaulted while standing outside the bar smoking. A verbal argument led to the accused using a broken beer bottle to cut the man’s chin. He was taken to the hospital. CV
