The Greater Des Moines Music Coalition hosts its second annual fundraiser “Backstage Ball” on Thursday, Feb. 24 at 5:30 p.m. at Jasper Winery. Dustin Smith and Flatform will perform while fans can schmooze with “local music legends” G. David and Barbara Hurd, Don and Madelyn Schoen, Fred and Charlotte Hubbell and Harry and Pamela Bass-Bookey. The DMMC will also present awards to Midwestix founder Kathryn Dickel, The Nadas’ Jason Walsmith and Mike Butterworth and DMMC founding member Rob Ferguson. Bright Giant plays Club 504 on Friday, Feb. 25 at 9 p.m. Admission is $5.

Western swing veterans Asleep at the Wheel play two shows at 6:30 and 8:30 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 25 and Saturday, Feb. 26 at Terrible’s Lakeside Casino. Tickets are $30.

William Elliot Whitmore and David Zollo play Saturday, Feb. 26 at 9 p.m. at People’s Court. Reserved seating tickets are $10-$20 through Midwestix.

A benefit show for Richard Binns featuring performances by The Maw and Slyde will be held Saturday, Feb. 26 at 9 p.m. at the House of Bricks. Admission is $7.

New Orleans jazz/funk group Glen David Andrews & the Lady Six perform Tuesday, March 1 at 8 p.m. at the M-Shop in Ames. Tickets are $10.

3 Inches of Blood and Holy Grail play an all-ages show on Wednesday, March 2 at 5 p.m. at the Vaudeville Mews. Tickets are $10 through Midwestix.

Two blues-rock guitarists have been added to the lineup at All Play. Tommy Castro plays March 7 ($20) and Scott Holt, who headlined the Central Iowa Blues Society’s Winter Blues Fest, performs May 20 ($10). Visit www.bigreddogmusic.com.

The Civic Music Association hosts a silent auction on March 12 at 6 p.m. at Drake University’s Sheslow Auditorium. The free event will be held in conjunction with a performance by Cantus, which requires tickets. Auction items include tickets to sporting events, music, dance and theater, and gift certificates. The “Strange Noiz Tour,” featuring Krizz Kaliko, Johnny Richter, Kutt Calhoun, Saigon and Potluck & J Hornay, plays People’s Court on March 22. Tickets are $15 through Midwestix.

Iowa State University has booked the following acts to play VEISHA: Big Boi, Cloud Cult, Love and Theft, Andy Grammer (April 15); and Gloriana, The Ready Set, Neon Trees, Downtown Fiction (April 16). General admission tickets are $10 day of show.

Americana singer-guitarist Joe Purdy plays the Vaudeville Mews on May 15. Tickets are $14.

The “Take Action Tour,” featuring Silverstein, Bayside, Polar Bear Club, The Swellers and Texas in July, play People’s Court on May 21. Tickets are $17 through Midwestix.

Michael Buble plays Wells Fargo Arena on June 23. Tickets TBA. CV
