The Surf Ballroom’s 2011 Winter Dance Party will be held this week, Feb. 2-5. It includes several activities (dance lessons, record show, memorial site tour) and performances by artists like Jerry Lee Lewis, Tommy Allsup and Sonny West. Author Gary Moore will also sign copies of his new book, “Hey Buddy.” Tickets to the headlining concerts are sold out, but many free events are open to the public. Three shows of note coming to People’s Court: Less Than Jake, The Supervillians and Off With Their Heads play an all-ages show on Friday, Feb. 4 at 6 p.m. Tickets are $16.50 through Midwestix. The Bob Marley Birthday Show featuring performances by Mooseknuckle, Aquamarine D.M., Cirrus Minor, The Jumbies, Dead Larry and Come Unity, will be held Saturday, Feb. 5 at 8 p.m. Admission is $10. William Elliot Whitmore and Dave Zollo play Feb. 26. Tickets are $10-$20 for reserved seating.

Postmodern Ensemble, featuring Scot Schwestka and Richard Webb, play a free show on Friday, Feb. 4 at 7:30 p.m. at Mars Cafe.

The Polaris Quintet plays Friday, Feb. 4 at 8 p.m. at the Salisbury House. Tickets are $25. Call 274-1777.

Redsky, Ancient Elm and Downglory play an all-ages show on Saturday, Feb. 5 at 5 p.m. at the House of Bricks. Tickets are $10 through Midwestix.

The husband-wife duo of Tina Haase Findlay and Brandon Findlay play the Botanical Center on Sunday, Feb. 6 at 1 p.m. Admission is $5.

The Val Air Ballroom has added three shows to its calendar. They include “The Establishment Rocks the Iowa Guard,” a concert to benefit families of Iowa National Guard soldiers, featuring Hoo Doo Prophet, Dirty Grandpa, Faculty Lounge and The Establishment on March 5. Admission is free, but donations are encouraged. On March 26, four heavy metal tribute bands (Ozzmosis, Hells Bells, Psycho Circus and Motley Too) play “Hell Child’s Party.” Tickets are $15. Then House of Pain with Big B & Slaine will jump around on April 16. Tickets are $22.50.

Hairball, the ’80s arena rock impersonation act, plays the Jacobson Center on the Iowa State Fairgrounds on March 12. Tickets are $15 in advance through www.iowastatefair.org.

The Bob Pace Band and MINT will open for Jonny Lang at the 7 Flags Event Center on March 25. Tickets are $30.

Legendary Texas blues artists Jimmie Vaughan and Lou Ann Barton perform March 29 at All Play. Tickets are $25 through All Play.

Scott Stilwell, who founded The Lighthouse Coffeehouse at West Des Moines Christian Church, hiring renowned Americana artists like Patty Larkin, John Gorka and Guy Davis to perform there from 2000 to 2007, is resurrecting the secular concert series. He is booking local and national folk, reggae and blues acts to play indoor and outdoor shows, including Matt Woods and The Thunderbolts (June 10), Dennis Warner (Aug. 12), Max Jury (July 15), Roots Rock Society (Sept. 11) and Tom Kimmel (Nov. 11). Stilwell plans to hire additional acts and to sell tickets for $5 or $10. CV
