Laugh in the New Year
Comedy XPeriment will perform its “New Year’s Eve Extravaganza” on Friday, Dec. 31 at the Civic Center’s Stoner Theater, 221 Walnut St. Comedy XPeriment creates scenes and skits based upon suggestions from the audience. The evening kicks off at 9 p.m. with a dessert reception and the audience can meet the improvisers. The show begins at 10 p.m. Tickets are $25 per person or $40 per couple. Celebrate the New Year
Des Moines’ premier non-alcoholic family New Year’s Eve Celebration, GuideOne ImaginEve, will be held Dec. 31. The event will take place at Hy-Vee Hall, 730 Third St., and runs from 4 to 8 p.m. Ring in the New Year with inflatables, clowns, entertainment, fireworks and more. Admission is free. Wine with a tropical feel
Tickets are available for the third annual Heart of Iowa Wine Trail Tropical Wine Festival, which will be held Feb. 4, 2011, at the Des Moines Botanical Center, 909 Robert D. Ray Drive. The festival runs from 6 to 9 p.m. and will feature Iowa-crafted wines, hors d’oeuvres, as well as a prize drawing. Patrons are encouraged to wear tropical outfits. Audition for the choir
The Ames Children’s Choir is currently accepting singers (ages 8 to 13) into the Preparatory Choir and Chorale. Auditions for the Spring Season will be conducted Jan. 8, 2011, in Ames. All singers will participate in the Midwest Children’s Choir Festival on April 1, 2011, and the Spring Concert on May 8, 2011. For the audition, participants need to be prepared to sing a folk or patriotic song. A tuition fee will be assessed to cover the cost of instruction, music and administration.
