Justice for all
Much has been written and said about the upcoming retention vote for the three Iowa Supreme Court justices. The divide is clearly split among those who support gay lifestyles and those who don’t. That’s unfortunate, as the decision the justices made is about so much more. The entire story has not been told, until now.
When Michael Gartner initially proposed the idea of publishing a historical perspective on the decisions made by Iowa’s justices and how it related to their vote on gay marriage, I wondered what more could be written about a subject that has had so much press already. After reviewing a draft of the article he personally penned, I realized that I, too, did not know the entire story. In a way only he can, Gartner shares a perspective that is rooted in fact and helps lessen the friction, encouraging us all — regardless of our political ties — to think differently and to understand why the judges voted as they did. I am glad to share it as this week’s cover story.
Thanks for reading. CV
