Oct. 2, 3 a.m.
Robbery in the 1300 block of East Ninth Street. Upon arrival, officers spoke with the victim who had suffered serious lacerations on his head and face. The victim said he was sitting in his apartment when three suspects forced their way in, demanded money and ordered him to strip. Two suspects had semi-auto handguns, and the other suspect struck him in the head and face. The suspects then fled in an unknown direction. Officers were unable to locate the suspects.
Oct. 2, 10 p.m.
Assault in the 2800 block of Southeast 22nd Street. The victim told officers that his father became upset with him after he complained of his stomach hurting. The victim said his father called him names, slapped him in the back of the head and also punched him in the left eye and cheek area. Officers did not observe any visible injuries to the victim’s face. Officers were unable to locate the suspect.
Oct. 4, 6:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Burglary in the 3600 block of East 13th Street. The victim stated that someone broke into her residency through her window and stole some of her property. The victim said the front door was cracked open when she arrived home and believe the suspect exited through the door after taking cash, an ATM card, checks and a ring valued at an unknown amount. The victim believes the residents living nearby may know something about the burglary. Officers were unable to locate any suspect(s). CV

Name: John Deering
The story: An off-duty officer in uniform was standing behind the counter at a local gas station when the suspect, later identified as Deering, entered the store. Deering picked up a beer and went to the counter to pay. The clerk recognized Deering as having been advised that he would be arrested for trespassing if he came on the property again. Deering immediately left the store, but as he was doing so, the officer advised him to stop. The officer attempted to grab Deering, but Deering punched her in the face, knocking her to the ground. Deering fled the scene, but officers were able to locate him approximately 10 minutes later. Deering was arrested without incident and taken to the Polk County Jail. Deering was charged with assault on a police officer/fire fighter with injury, interference with official acts with misdemeanor injury and trespassing.
