Take advantage of books
As United States citizens, we have an underappreciation for our ability to read. Well, most of us can anyway. I assume you pick up this newspaper for more than the pretty pictures. I would guess you do so because you appreciate having your views challenged and your mind opened to new ideas. Those who know how to read and choose not to do so are committing a downright crime. Mark Twain said it best with, “The man who doesn’t read good books has no advantage over the man who can’t read them.”
So with this issue of Cityview, we issue a challenge for you to seek out and read at least one of the books that members of our staff reviewed in our fourth annual fall books guide. Some are truly thought provoking; others are just silly.
Now keep in mind this isn’t The New York Times Best Seller list, but this paper isn’t The New York Times either. The range of offerings we propose is what we feel makes this cover story intriguing.
So buy these books at your local bookstore. Check them out from the library. Download them on Kindle. We don’t care; just make the effort to pick up one or more.
And, as always, thanks for reading. CV
