Valley Junction’s longstanding free music series, Function in the Junction, concludes another successful season with a performance by Boomerang on Thursday, Sept. 30 from 6 to 8:30 p.m.

Former Lucinda Williams guitarist-producer Gurf Morlix plays the House of Bricks on Thursday, Sept. 30 at 8 p.m. Brother Trucker opens at 7 p.m. Admission is $10.

Funk-jazz drummer Stanton Moore, co-founder of the New Orleans band Galactic, plays the Vaudeville Mews on Thursday, Sept. 30 at 10 p.m. with singer-guitarist Anders Osborne. Admission is $15.

Former Des Moines rock band The Blinders is reuniting after 18 years for one show on Friday, Oct. 1 at 8 p.m. at the House of Bricks. Dirty Grampa, a new band formed by The Blinders’ Craig Sinclair, will open. Admission TBA.

Three shows this week at the Val Air Ballroom: Band of Horses, with openers Brad & Blake Mills on Friday, Oct. 1 at 7 p.m. ($25); Dic Young’s Rock ‘N Roll Revival on Saturday, Oct. 2 at 7 p.m. ($10); and Passion Pit on Monday, Oct. 4 at 7 p.m. ($25). ... In related news, several newly announced shows coming to the Val Air include: Christian rock band Thousand Foot Krutch, with openers Disciple and Ivoryline, on Oct. 8 ($10-$25); Mike Posner, with Stephen Jerzak, Bad Rabbits and XV, on Oct. 18 ($25); country acts Randy Houser and the Randy Rogers Band on Oct. 17 ($15); and Craig Morgan with Troy Olsen on Nov. 5 ($20). Tickets for all shows are available through Ticketmaster.

The Berlin Philharmonic Wind Quintet performs Friday, Oct. 1 at 7:30 p.m. at Drake University’s Sheslow Auditorium. Tickets are $15-$45 through Midwestix.com and the Civic Music Association (280-4020).

On Saturday, Oct. 2, 30 Seconds to Mars with special guests Pepper and New Politics plays the 7 Flags Event Center at 8 p.m. Tickets are $25 through Ticketmaster.

The Mexican musical duo of Rodrigo y Gabriela has cancelled its Oct. 3 concert at Hoyt Sherman Theater due to health reasons.

New York underground rap star Joell Ortiz plays the Vaudeville Mews on Monday, Oct. 4 at 10 p.m. Admission is $12. Guerilla Hustle, D.O.P.E. Clique, Apollo and Trey Lane will open.

Indie-rap icon Atmosphere, with openers Blueprint, Grieves & Budo and DJ Rare Groove, play at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 6 at People’s Court. Tickets are $20 through Midwestix.

Propagandhi plays an all-ages show on Wednesday, Oct. 6 at 5 p.m. at the House of Bricks. Tickets are $16 through Midwestix.

Grammy Award-winning pop singer and “Dancing With the Stars” contestant Michael Bolton performs Wednesday, Oct. 6 at 7:30 p.m. at The Meadows Events Center in Altoona. Tickets are $34-$74 through Ticketmaster.

Needtobreathe and The Daylights plays People’s Court on Nov. 14. Tickets are $20 through Midwestix.

Blood on the Dance Floor plays the House of Bricks on Nov. 28. Tickets are $10 through Midwestix.
