Summerfest hits Principal Park
Summerfest is scheduled for Friday, Aug. 27 and Saturday, Aug. 28 at Principal Park, 1 Line Drive. The two-day event is presented by the Downtown Community Alliance and will include live entertainment, games, activities, beer, food and more. Admission is $6, which also includes one complimentary beer. Children ages 13 and younger are free. Hours begin at 5 p.m. on Friday and 4 p.m. on Saturday.

 

Altoona Palooza is here
The inaugural citywide event Altoona Palooza will take place Saturday, Aug. 28 at the Sam Wise Youth Complex, Eighth Avenue Southeast. The event runs from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. and features inflatable rides, car show, mud volleyball, softball tournament, bingo, live entertainment, beer garden and food. Eat some brains
Finders Creepers, 515 18th St., will host a zombie fest and bake sale fund-raiser on Saturday, Aug. 28. Beginning at 11 a.m., the event will feature plenty of ghoulish treats zombie caricatures, zombie body painting, zombie movies and rewards from Nightmare City Apparel for the biggest donations. Color the sidewalks
Community!Youth Concepts’ Youth Venture Sidewalk Chalk Flood is slated for Saturday, Aug. 28 at Western Gateway Park, 13th and Locust Streets. All ages are invited to participate in this year’s theme, “Dream it, Des Moines.” The event runs from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and will allow participants to learn about the Youth Venture Program. Cruise the cars
The 10th Annual “Cruise to the Carousel” Car Show will take place on Sunday, Aug. 29 at Union Park. The event will offer free rides from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., and proceeds from the show will support the Heritage Carousel. There will also be a live auction, raffle, door prizes and more.
