Aug. 16-17

 

Aug. 16, 9:25 p.m.

Robbery in the 1200 block of Sixth Avenue. The victim told officers he had just bought cigarettes when the suspect approached and stuck him in the side of the head. The victim was knocked over, and the suspect struck him three or four more times in the face. The suspect took the victim’s gym bag, which contained cash, debit cards, workout gloves and his I.D. The suspect attempted to drive off, but lost control and struck a utility pole. The suspect then fled the scene on foot. Officers were unable to locate the suspect.

 

Aug. 16, 10:52 p.m.

Simple domestic assault in the 150 block of Beaver Avenue. Upon arrival, officers met with the victim who stated her husband had just assaulted her.
She said that they were in an argument, and he pushed her. She then hit the wall and fell to the floor. The suspect told the victim that if she called police, he would be back for revenge. Officers observed some swelling on the victim’s upper body. Officers were unable to locate the suspect.

 

Aug. 17, 7:30 a.m.

Assault in the 3900 block of 10th Street. The victim was removing debris from the sidewalk on 10th Street when a mini-van slowed down, and the driver fired at least three times with a B.B. gun. One shot struck the victim in the upper torso. The van then sped south on 10th Street. The victim stated he did not want rescue, and officers did not observe any injuries to the victim. The victim believes his neighbors may know something more about the incident. Officers were unable to locate the suspect(s). CV

 

Busted

Name: Travis Eugene Miles

The story: Officers observed a red Chevy truck, driven by Miles, heading westbound on East University. Miles turned northbound onto East 14th Street at a high rate of speed, hit a median and almost collided with a motorcyclist. At that point, an officer activated his emergency lights and sirens and pursued Miles who continued to accelerate. Miles refused to pull over and attempted to elude officers, including reaching speeds of more than 30 mph in a residential area. As the pursuit reached the intersection of East Ninth Street and Jefferson Avenue, Miles ran a stop sign and collided with another vehicle. The victim sustained a broken ankle and sternum, and suffered internal bleeding. Miles was pinned in the cab of his truck and was semi-conscious. The victim and Miles were taken to local hospitals. Miles was charged with serious injury by vehicle (OWI related), eluding/attempting to elude (OWI or drug violation), driving while barred, unlawful use of curb/median/dividing section, failure to maintain, obedience to traffic control device, reckless driving and operating while intoxicated (second offense).
