Financial debt
A recent report by Moody’s Investors Services showed that Iowa’s state government has the second-lowest per-capita debt in the nation, averaging $73 per person. Only Nebraska had a lower per-capita debt at $15 per person. The general fund is the state’s chief operating account. The report also stated Iowa’s total general fund debt was approximately $219.3 million for the 2009 fiscal year. The total debt for the Iowa state government is $3.188 billion — this includes all areas of state government including the Iowa Board of Regents. CV
