Iowa’s red carpet runway

We love the Iowa State Fair — the shows, the midway, the food. And, yes, we love the people. Oh, yes, the people. Aside from a Saturday afternoon at Wal-mart, there are few times when one can experience so many circus-like sideshows that go seemingly unnoticed other times of the year.

Four-hundred-and-fifty-pound Iowans may have trouble walking, yes, but to clog an already massive sea of humanity with dozens of electric mobility scooters is like maneuvering around tractors on I-235.

Cowboy boots and short skirts never seemed to be a logical combination, but neither did chocolate and bacon.

We still wonder where fairgoers buy all those skin tight, white tank tops that are all the rage. Probably back at Wal-mart.

The Iowa State Fair has been entertaining people of all ages, shapes and sizes since 1886. If you enjoy people watching like we do, you can take your pick from more than a million who stroll through the 445 acres that serve as home to the fair. It’s Iowa’s red carpet runway, and we love it.

Non-stop fun? Maybe.

Non-stop fashion? Absolutely. CV
