‘Clash of the Titans’
Directed by Louis Leterrier
Rated PG-13, 106 minutes

“Release the Kraken,” screams Zeus ( Liam Neeson ) before a yawn-inducing battle scene. That was the best part of “Clash of the Titans,” a terrible remake based on the 1981 cult classic. Along with being a bad movie, “Clash of the Titans” is the perfect example why films should be shot entirely in 3-D and not converted later; it didn’t enhance the film and left me with a headache. The story follows Perseus (Sam Worthington), a peasant who discovers he’s the son of the god Zeus. After finding out that killing the Kraken will bring him revenge, he sets out with a group of soldiers, collecting sacred items and killing whatever comes across their path including giant scorpions and Medusa. “Clash of the Titans” was supposed to kick off the summer popcorn flicks, but, unfortunately, it was the first of many crappy movies that have filled theaters since April. Avoid this film at all cost! CV

‘Krull’
Directed by Peter Yates
1983, Rated PG, 121 minutes

If you like good, fantasy-based films, then look no further than the 1980s. It was a decade full of mystical tales including “Conan the Barbarian,” “The Beastmaster,” “Fire and Ice,” “Willow” and “Steel Dawn.” But none is more entertaining than the epic story of good and evil in “Krull.” The film follows Prince Colwyn (Ken Marshall), who must save Princess Lyssa (Lysette Anthony) from The Beast. After their kingdom is decimated, Colwyn finds the only weapon that can defeat The Beast, a giant ninja star projectile called a glaive. With the glaive in his possession, Colwyn heads to the Black Forest (where Lyssa is being held captive) and along the way joins forces with a bumbling magician, a Cyclops and a group of thieves (which includes Liam Neeson). Can Colwyn defeat The Beast and save Lyssa? Or will darkness prevail? You’ll just have to sit back and enjoy “Krull” to find out. CV
