Ankeny’s 44th annual SummerFest includes free live music at Leisure Garden by The Rumbles on Thursday, July 10 at 7:30 p.m., David Haack Trio at 6:30 p.m. and The Nadas at 9 p.m. on Friday, July 11, Standing Hampton at 8 p.m. on Saturday, July 12 and Langer Hayes at 7 p.m. on Sunday, July 13.

Local acoustic pop singer and artist Brent Houzenga celebrates the release of his new album, “My Whole Life,” with a show on Friday, July 9 at 10 p.m. at the Vaudeville Mews. Admission is $5.

Guitarist Debbie Davies, formerly of Albert Collins’ band, and singer Robin Rogers share the bill on Friday, July 9 at 9:30 p.m. at Blues on Grand. Admission is $10.

Des Moines Metro Opera’s 38th season is in full swing and includes three performances this weekend at the Blank Performing Arts Center at 7:30 p.m. On Friday, July 9, “Macbeth,” plays, followed by “The Marriage of Figaro” on Saturday, July 10 and “Susannah” on Sunday, July 11. High water has rendered Simon Estes Amphitheater useless of late (JJ Grey & Mofro, The Wailers, Sister Hazel, etc.), forcing promoters to move concerts to People’s Court and the Val Air Ballroom. As of press time, jam band Moe. is scheduled to perform at the downtown amphitheater on Saturday, July 10 at 7 p.m. Tickets are $20 through Midwestix. Fans should visit for updates about possible changes in venue.

Classic rock bands Molly Hatchet and Blackfoot perform Saturday, July 10 at 8 p.m. at 7 Flags Event Center. Tickets are $20 in advance.

Bay Area punk rock group Heartsounds perform Monday, July 12 at 6:15 p.m. for fans of all ages at the Vaudeville Mews. Tyborn Jig and The Last Call Casualties open. Admission is $7.

Admittedly, it isn’t a concert but animal lovers and cool cats might want to catch the Amazing Acro-Cats live and in purr-son on Tuesday, July 13 at 7 p.m. at the House of Bricks where the kitties will perform various tricks. Tickets are $10 and a portion of the proceeds benefit the Animal Rescue League.

Celebration Iowa Singers and Jazz Band, an ensemble of high school musicians, will perform for free on Tuesday, July 13 at 7 p.m. in Colby Park in Windsor Heights. Formerly known as the Iowa State Fair Singers, the group is now in its 28th season.

The Devil Wears Prada, voted 2009’s “Band of the Year” by readers of Alternative Press, plays two shows this week at the Vaudeville Mews on Tuesday, July 13 and Wednesday, July 14 at 6 p.m. The metalcore band is on its “Back to the Roots” tour, which plays to fans of all ages. Tickets are $15. Miss May I and Your Demise open both shows.

Canadian stoner rockers Black Mountain perform Monday, July 26 at the Vaudeville Mews. The 21-and-over show starts at 8 p.m., and tickets are $12. Mondo Drag opens the show.
