The Des Moines City Council recently approved $1,928 for Bill Stowe, public works director and assistant city manager, to attend an annual conference in Boston, Mass., from Aug. 14 to 18. Areas of instruction include career and personal development, construction management, fleet services, parks and grounds, snow and ice, solid waste, traffic operations and much more. The council also approved $2,075 for Kathleen Vanderpool, deputy city attorney and $2,100 for Bruce Bergman, city attorney, to attend the 75th Annual International Municipal Lawyer’s Association Conference in New Orleans, La. The conference runs from Oct. 9 to 13 and includes various workshops useful to municipal entities, including topics such as land use, economic development and municipal finance. CV
